Sherman Plans Road Improvements

The Village of Sherman has finished studying what roads in town need work, and it’s compiled a list available for public inspection.

Mayor Trevor Clatfelter says there’s already money in the budget.

“We’re not going to be looking at any tax increases,” he says. “It would be making cuts, but there’s not really much to cut in a small budget. We do, and we have, over a period of time increased our contingency fund for situations like this.”

The village determined which repairs were most needed following a study, funded through a grant from the Springfield Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission. One of the worst spots, Clatfelter says, is Old Tipton School Rd., which will receive attention.

Officials have identified ten areas that need work, which will likely cost around $1.5 million dollars. He doesn’t think a tax increase will be needed to pay back the bonds.
