Quinn Plans to Sign Election Day Registration Bill

Gov. Pat Quinn does agree with his Republican opponent on one issue — letting voters register on Election Day.

Quinn and Bruce Rauner both support allowing same-day registration, and Quinn promises he’ll be acting soon on the bill to put it into place for the November election. Republican lawmakers have claimed it’s a ploy to encourage more Democratic voters to show up to the polls, but Quinn doesn’t buy that argument.

“I think that’s baloney,” Quinn said. “I think what we should do in our state and in our country is find every way possible to participate in the process.”

The bill would also allow extra days for in-person early voting. If Quinn signs it, it would apply only to this year’s election.
