R&B legend Patti LaBelle was given a surprise while watching a performance of Broadway show “After Midnight” when its star Fantasia Barrino sang an impromptu version of one of her most famous hits.

LaBelle was in the audience of the hit production, which celebrates jazz icon Duke Ellington’s years at Harlem’s famous Cotton Club, at New York City’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre last week.

After Barrino spotted the star in the audience, she burst into a unscripted rendition of LaBelle’s classic track “Lady Marmalade.”

A source tells New York gossip column Page Six, “As a nod to the VIP in the crowd, Fantasia broke into an impromptu a cappella version of Patti’s hit ‘Lady Marmalade.'”

Barrino is the show’s current guest star, while Broadway audiences will have the chance to watch Toni Braxton and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds in After Midnight from March.
